Most people think creating a digital product is about having a great idea.

It’s not.

I’ve seen people spend weeks… sometimes months… building something they thought would “change the game.”

Then they launch.

And nothing happens.

No sales. No feedback. Just silence.

I’ve been there too.

So before you create your first (or next) digital product, here are three things I wish I understood earlier.

88% resolved. 22% stayed loyal. What went wrong?

That's the AI paradox hiding in your CX stack. Tickets close. Customers leave. And most teams don't see it coming because they're measuring the wrong things.

Efficiency metrics look great on paper. Handle time down. Containment rate up. But customer loyalty? That's a different story — and it's one your current dashboards probably aren't telling you.

Gladly's 2026 Customer Expectations Report surveyed thousands of real consumers to find out exactly where AI-powered service breaks trust, and what separates the platforms that drive retention from the ones that quietly erode it.

If you're architecting the CX stack, this is the data you need to build it right. Not just fast. Not just cheap. Built to last.

1. Your Idea Doesn’t Matter as Much as the Problem

Here’s the truth most people don’t want to hear:

Nobody cares about your idea.

People care about their problems.

If your product doesn’t solve something real, it won’t sell… no matter how polished it looks.

When I started, I focused too much on what I wanted to create.

Now, I focus on what people are already struggling with.

That shift changes everything.

Instead of guessing, you listen.

Instead of building blindly, you validate.

You can do this in simple ways:

  • Read comments under posts in your niche

  • Pay attention to repeated questions

  • Look at what people complain about

If the same problem keeps showing up… that’s your opportunity.

Build for that.

2. Distribution Is More Important Than Creation

This one hurts a little.

Because most of us enjoy creating more than selling.

But here’s the reality:

You can have an average product and still make sales if people trust you.

But even the best product will fail if no one sees it.

When I launched my early products, I made the mistake of building in silence.

No audience. No attention. No demand.

Now I do the opposite.

I talk about the product before it exists.

I share ideas, insights, and lessons publicly.

By the time I launch, people already know what I’m building.

And some are ready to buy.

Start simple:

  • Share what you’re learning

  • Document your process

  • Talk about the problem you’re solving

You don’t need thousands of followers.

You just need the right people paying attention.

3. Simple Sells Better Than Smart

A lot of people try to sound smart.

➥ They use complicated words.
➥ They build complex products.
➥ They add too many features.

And in the end… people get confused.

Confused people don’t buy.

Your goal isn’t to impress.

Your goal is to make things easy.

Easy to understand.
Easy to trust.
Easy to use.

When someone looks at your product, they should instantly get it.

➥ What it does.
➥ Who it’s for.
➥ Why it matters.

If they have to think too much… you’ve already lost them.

Keep it simple:

  • One clear problem

  • One clear solution

  • One clear outcome

That’s enough.

Conclusion

If you remember nothing else, remember this:

Solve a real problem. Build attention before you build the product. Keep everything simple.

That’s it.

➥ You don’t need perfect timing.
➥ You don’t need a huge audience.
➥ You don’t need a complicated system.

You just need to start… and learn as you go.

Because the real lessons don’t come from planning.

They come from doing.

If you have any questions about building, launching, or selling digital products, drop them in the comments.
